AT&T Wireless Complaint - Expensive! - Wireless
DENVER, COLORADO -- Had Sprint for 10 years, only wireless company that I have ever had until I was seduced by the iPhone (like many other people) and switched to AT&T in April of this year. Sprint had terrible call dropping in the early years and their customer service was pretty bad up until a year ago. Their product has improved tremendously, however, as far as call clarity and dropped calls. I was very excited about getting the iPhone and I still think it is the most elegant consumer electronics product that I have ever used. AT&T, however, taints this beautiful device. All of the complaints I have about the iPhone are related to AT&T wireless service. Their 3G seems to be slower than Sprint and that's only when it is not reverting to the porky "Edge" network which it seems to do often. I live in a large metropolitan area so it's not like they have an excuse to not have 3G all of the time. What really surprises me the most is that the voice calls seem to not go through about 30% of the time on the first try, and very often, they have considerable static when they do. I did not have this static problem with Sprint at all. It reminds me of the old analog days of cell phones. Very surprising to still be encountering this in this day in age with the largest wireless company in the country! Also, AT&T is ALOT more expensive than Sprint as (about 30% and that includes a 21% discount on the voice calls that I have with my employer!)
I really love the iPhone and still will not go back to Sprint because of it. My hope is that the rumors that Verizon will get the iPhone in a year or two is true. AT&T needs some competition BAD. Only then, I predict, will we be getting a rate plan that is truly competitive. Get an iPhone if you wish, but be advised that as long as AT&T is the only show in town that they are going to milk you for every penny that they can get!
