Farmers Automobile Insurance Assn Informative - Sudden Rate Increases - Auto Insurance

Auto Insurance
Review by clf326 on 2009-05-23
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS -- I've had car insurance with Farmers for over 25 years, and I have a great agent. Premiums have been stable with small or no increases. The prior 6-month payment increased by $27. Today, I received a bill for the next 6 months, and it jumped by $114. That's nearly $150 in one year after 25 years of stability. I've been very happy with this company, but I won't pay the higher rates.

Nothing has changed on my end -- no accidents, tickets, no claims filed in 25 years. I would be interested to know if other Farmers' auto insurance customers are seeing the same price jumps? Before I change companies, I will discuss it with my agent.

Good for you, don't pay them.

I'd suggest asking them why the change.

It might be nothing you did wrong, but simply the age of your vehicle or something like that. they should be able to explain it however.

clf, perhaps your state mandates all insureds pay into a fund as they do here in MI. Those of us who live by the rules and have continual coverage have to pay for the medical costs of those who drive real clunkers and take out only a 3-month policy around the time they have to renew their license tab. The fund is nearly depleted so the state wants to put more $$ into it. This is included in our premium, which the company then forwards to Lansing. I paid my 6-mo. premium in March and the amount was increased by (I believe) $14, or about $28 per year. It has absolutely no bearing on our driving records--it's just to pay some else's bills. Do a line by line comparison with your previous statement and you'll see where the increase is.

clf, my insurance premiums increased as well. i called my agent, and told him my dis-plesure, and he said there was a nation wide increase to all insurance carriers. i suspect next year our healthcare premiums will increase as well.

Change insurance companies - now. If you ever have to place a claim with them you will find out first-hand just how poor Farmer's performance has been in the past.

A quick search on either of the two below is just a small snapshot of Farmer's ongoing bad faith practices:

"Ethel's Bill HB 2415" or
"Christoffersen University Place Farmers"

Farmers Insurance and their agents are never to be trusted to do the right thing.
