STS Tire and Auto Service Complaint - This company may sell you unnecessary services.
DELRAN, NEW JERSEY -- I brought my 1998 Avalon to the Delran branch on May 5 for oil, lube and filter.
The salesman showed me a smear of the transmission oil, compared it to his chart and recommended a transmission flush. I hesitated, wanting to think about it, but he said it wouldn’t take long with the flushing machine they use so I succumbed and told him to go ahead. The charge was $119.95.
When I came home I discovered that the transmission fluid in this car had been changed exactly 6,167 miles before. I called the shop and the salesperson was very nice. But in retrospect I disagreed with the way the matter was handled.
I think that subtle pressure was applied to get me to plunk down $119.95. Thereby, the money I saved on STS’s oil change special was completely undone by an unnecessary transmission service. Indeed many mechanics point out that the flushing machine stirs up the sediment in the transmission which can do more harm than good.
I am reminded once again never to completely trust the recommendation of a chain car-service facility.
