National Car Rental Complaint - Read your fine print!
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- I moved to Orange County and had to rent a car while waiting for my shipped car. Not knowing exactly when my car would arrive, I rented via National's website for a 4 day rental. I was quoted $173 for 4 days.
Fortunately, my car arrived 2 days early and I decided to return the rental a few days earlier. Instead of getting a refund back for the two days I didn't need the rental, National charged me $150 / day for the two days I had rented the car. My total bill was $300 for returning the car two days earlier.
Noone told me about the $150 rate; it was not mentioned in any of the rental agreement. There was a single paragraph saying that the rental agreement was for four days--but it didn't specify that one would be penalized at the max rate for an early return.
Needless to say, I'm never renting from National again. I've used Enterprise, Hertz, Avis and Budget without any problems. I hope these outrageous business practices drive National into bankruptcy. Good riddance to a terrible customer experience!
