Garmin Nuvi Complaint - Updating Maps Properly

Review by Momma Gi on 2009-06-01
OLATHE, KANSAS -- In November 2008 we purchased an updated map from Garmin for approx. 85.00. On a recent trip to Salem Mass. We were on Bridge Street & the system tried to send up onto a Rotary or Circle that had been removed 6 years ago. This caused great problems because we were staying on Bridge St. and this road let to everything we were trying to get to. I just hung up from Garmin T. S. & am more frustrated now then when I originally called.

They told me there was nothing they could do. But I could purchase the 2010 version for an additional 85.00. They told me errors happen, so I said not for 6 years. So the versions from 2004 to 2009 had never been updated correctly..It just makes me sick that supposed reputable companies can rip you off and the consumer has no recourse. We own a Garmin Nuvi 660 that cost us over 600.00 in 2007...GARMIN, SHAME ON YOU.........

GPS devices are one of those things that do a wonderful job considering the amount of data they access. However, one must be aware of the limitations and possible inaccuracies. Garmin, themselves, do not produce the maps. They only take the information provided by NAVTEQ and reproduce it in update format for their devices.

The kind of difficulty you have encountered will always exist. They will never be perfect. There will always be a new interstate interchange that has been changed or a bridge that is now gone and was overlooked.

All in all the do an exceptional job. Learn your device and you can live with its occasional error.

I don't know where you're getting your information from but I'm from the Salem area, and that horrible circle was just recently removed. I know the construction was not finished before November 2008. I'm guessing Garmin has no way of knowing what and intersection will look like before it's done being built.
