National City Bank Complaint - Horrible Company With Horrible Policies And Rude Employees - Checking, Savings Accounts

Checking, Savings Accounts - Complaint
Review by bsan3 on 2009-06-04
Horrible customer service! I don't care how much or how little a customer has in their account, you should never stand up for being treated like garbage by your bank! I made a purchase online and the retailer had an honest to goodness issue on their site resulting in me being double-charged. I contacted the retailer immediately, they apologized and assured me I would be issued a credit instantly. I saw the item cancel but didn't see any credit back to National City online within a couple hours. I called NC's support and the CSR was very helpful and advised me to simply get the authorization number from the retailer and they'd be able to instantly credit me. I got the authorization number and called back with roughly 10 minutes before they closed -- this time, the CSR was very hostile. He kept stalling and finally pulled up the appropriate information. After asking me to hold for a couple minutes and telling me he couldn't find any charges (although the previous representative did so in under 10 seconds) he states "Oh, I found the issue here. Unfortunately, we're now closed. Call back tomorrow, hopefully you won't overdraft." He ended the call..

Needless to say I will be closing my account and moving back to my local bank (which had fewer services but GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE) It cannot be said enough about these people at National City...HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Once they get their money, they will shyt all over you.

I've never heard of a bank accepting an authorization code from a customer for a credit to their account for this issue. Typically, the bank will require a faxed released authorization from the merchant. Also, if the duplicate charge dropped from your account, why are you still needing a credit? Then you would be getting your purchase for free.

Any chargebacks I have done have been done immediately at the register as a credit on a credit card or have gone from our office right to our credit card processor. We have never given anything directly to a customer and had them take care of it. That just sounds odd.

Credits back are not processed the same way that debits are, so you will not see anything online until the actual item has been submitted by the merchant, and that could be as much as 3 days. The bank didn't do anything wrong here, it was the merchant who made the mistake, and it sounds like they made an effort to rectify it.
