True Restaurant Complaint - Mobile Fine Dining. NOT

Review by 94444 on 2009-06-04
MOBILE, ALABAMA -- Went to True Restaurant yesterday was not impressed. Who in their right mind pays 5 bucks for a mixed green salad? What is a mixed salad you probably ask like I did, well its mixed greens and tomatoes and that's the gist of it. For the main course I had the roasted chicken which cost 17 bucks well I was still hungry when I was done eating it that's how small the portion was. Oh and if you want your complimentary iced tea you gotta ask for it upfront if you don't say nothing they will charge you for it. When I asked my waitress how come she handed me a menu and told me to read it. My meal came to near 35 bucks yet I left hungry and irate. For a uppity up place that is supposed to be fine dining was not impressed with neither the food nor the service and won't be going back again.

Hope this helps ya'll when pickin out a nice place to spend your hard earned money.

What else did you eat for 35 dollars or was it two of you?
This is far from fine dining, you could run up a ticket like this at IHOP!

Thanks for the heads up, tater. I'm in Mobile and never heard of this place...time to google.

I'm like you, if a salad costs $5 there better be something of interest in it besides iceberg and tomatoes.

It better be garnished with gold dust...

Oh I see! The menu online is kind of confusing, but if I read it right, it's a $35 charge for a three course meal for one...actually I'm kind of intrigued.

LOL@OF, you are a man after my own heart..

Thanks for your reply. This was only for my lunch I had the mixed salad, the chicken, iced tea which was suppoesd to be free, and icecream. You might not agree it's fine dining but understand this is how True advertises itself to hte public. I can't afford to eat at fancy places often so you can understnd my disappointment.

I completely understand your disappointment, especially for a lunch price!!!!! That's a little steep for my taste for one person.

I don't think Mobilians will support that kind of food/portions/service for too long. Also, the waitress needs a lesson in manners..handing a menu to a customer and telling them to "read it" is rude and unacceptable.

Well shoot I didn't see the other replies when I was answering to the first one. Thanks ya'll. BokiBean this place is on Du Rhu drive if that helps. When that waitress handed me the menu and told me to read it I told her I can't read ma'am can ya'll read it for me! She 'bout fell over!
Posted by BokiBean on 2009-06-04:
Hahaha! Good for you! Mobile won't put up with rudeness from waitresses...she's going to fall over a lot. ;)

Boki, you never heard of this place, huh?
TaT, was that a whole chicken for 17 dollars? Seriously.

I don't care for overpriced bad food although $35 these days for fine dining isn't all that much. Heck, I got jacked for $250 for dinner for two at the Melting Pot in OKC. I still get a colon twitch just thinking about it. Good review.

Zzrokk, it was not a whole chicken, just the breast, but for the price and quality it should of been. I will give credit for the sauce it was a mushroomy type with asparagus in it quite tasty. Overall I wouldn't say it was bad food, just okay food. I guess I expected more for all the hype that's been placed on this restaurnt since it opened a couple years back.

TaT: I know what you mean when you go to a hyped up restaurant.
Except for maybe some hot wings for an appetizer, I never order chicken dishes at places like that. They give you a breast with some trumped up mushroom sauce and charge you an "arm and a wing".

No I haven't heard of this place yet. I'll ask hubby when he gets home, he'll probably tell me he told me about it ages ago...sometimes I don't listen so good. lol

Hahaha Zzrok! I wish I'd of thought to say that when I was gettin' dissed by that snooty waitress. I'll stick with my ole faithful Al's Hotdogs & Other Fine Foods, if you're ever in Mobile give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Melting Pot..is that one of those fondue places? I think that's the same one that we have over in P'Cola that I keep bugging hubby to take me to...they be a little pricey.

Boki, The majority of that bill was for the pre-meal cocktails and two bottles of wine. I think the actual food came to like a $100 for two people. It was really good and it was for my wife's birthday BUT I personally unless coerced wouldn't eat there again. I like to keep my meal tabs in the single digits.
Posted by BokiBean on 2009-06-04:
Yeah, I want to try it for a special treat and my b'day is coming right up. There's a feast rate for like $150..and I know what you mean about single digits (or at least double)!
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-06-04:
The Melting Pot sounds too pricey for my low low budget but sounds scrumptious. I am in favor of single digit meal tabs to.

This site is way cool I've been reading thru stuff all day, I need to get before I get addicted. :P

I am the owner of the restaurant TRUE that tater tot was slaming and i can not say for sure that he did not have bad service but the prices that he says are out right LIES we have not ever had a 35 dollar 3 course for lunch our lunch prices are 10 to 12 dollars for entrees , our chicken has always been 11 dollars. and ice tea is free "for lunch" and you dont have to ask for it, aparently he is in the minority check this link out http://www.opentable.com/rest_profile.aspx?rid=16330
yes we are a tad more expensive than a typical chain restaurant but this is not a chain restaurant where things are actually microwaved eveerthing is made on sight even the bread and mustard.
