I called to cancel DirectTV.. they tried to talk me out of it. I said I am moving to corporate housing for awhile. So they kept insisting that they sign me up for a 6 Month Temporary Suspension and when I was ready to start it up I could call. I think they are so desperate to keep clients on their ‘books’ that they will do anything to avoid a cancellation... including making it hard to cancel.
So I am on a temporary suspension and I get these $0 Bills for 5 months.. then all of a sudden a $213 bill appears (DTV says it is for 1.5 months - if I would have gotten an email for the partial $75 month I would have called then right then). I call and they explain that they automatically turn my service back on after 6 months. I say that I probably won't be ready to reactivate service for at least another month.. and they agree they would delete the $212 from the account. They want my service so of course they are not gonna charge me for their service I didn't use...
Well, I decided not to use DTV because the condo I will be staying in for the next 6 months encourages you to use other services that they are already wired for…( and that in 6 months I was going to resume service again when I moved again). So I called to officially cancel and the $212 fee is still there. I argue how can they charge for something I didn't use (and the fact that they were going to delete the charge).
My reasoning.. If you don't use electricity.. you don't get charged. If you don't use water.. you don't get charged. WHAT UTILITY COMPANY CAN CHARGE YOU FOR NOT USING THEIR SERVICE? They refused to give me my $212...(which they already told me they would). Of course their notes in their computer are incomplete and favor their firm and make no mention of the chargeback.. there was.no note of the last conversation where I was told I would not be charged.
I have spent thousands ($7500) with DTV over the past 5 years and was a HUGE fan of them... I think they have a great service. However, their customer service sucks and now the $1500 annually i spend with a TV provider.. which is $15000+ every decade... will go to AT&T Uverse or some other carrier.
I told the DTV manager that it was disgusting how they treat a longtime customer.. I told them that now they were going to lose a loyal customer and I would use the power of the Internet to announce my dissatisfaction. I told them that would blog my experience and that it will cost them many many customers. See my letter at these locations and more….
DTV had to squeeze a dime out of me..this is what they get. I probably was responsible for a minimum of 20-25 clients signing up for DTV and now I will take back those 25 and 50 more.
25 lost customers at a value of $5000 each.. is $125,000… is $125000+ worth not refunding me my $215. Lets see.
(NOTE: The other day I missed a call from DirecTV customer service… hmmm)
