Home Depot Complaint - Home Depot, Spanish Only?
HANOVER, PENNSYLVANIA -- I am in the market for a string trimmer. I stopped at the Hanover, PA Home Depot to look over their product line and get some information. I had already looked at trimmers at a Lowes that is in the same overall location.
I looked over what they had to offer and found a couple of good possibilities, but being short on time, I grabbed a yard product pamphlet from a stack, thinking I could get more detailed info when I got home. I made a quick note about prices in the pamphlet next to the product pictures.
Later, when I started to look for details, I discovered that the entire pamphlet was in Spanish. When I had made my notes, it really didn't register, because often pamphlets have a Spanish section, and I just wanted to quickly jot down the prices. Now I found that Spanish was all there was. There had been only one stack, all the same, and this was the only info available.
I am not opposed to any group, and I think people can speak to each other in any language they want, but this IS the United States, and we speak English here. We do business in English here. I am offended when I have to press "1" for English in any place of business or on the phone. I have no problem with anyone which to use any other language having it available to them if THEY press a button, but English should ALWAYS be the default.
If Home Depot believes that they should serve their customers in Spanish only, then I suggest that they are free to close their stores in this country, and do business where Spanish is spoken. As for me, I don't read or speak Spanish, and Pennsylvania has other stores (ie: Lowes) where I can still get info in English. I will spend my money at those establishments.
