Motel 6 Complaint - Worst Motel In My 37 Years On The Road - Motel In The Ghetto

Motel In The Ghetto - Complaint
Review by Lickety Split on 2009-06-06
JOLIET, ILLINOIS -- I rarely stay at a Motel 6 due to information from friends. I stayed 4 nights at the Motel 6 in Joliet, IL and without a doubt it was the worst motel experience of my travels of 37 years. The first night I was awakened by 4 teenage boys playing hide and seek at 0130am. I called the front desk and they said they would take care of the problem. I got a total of 4 hours sleep that night.

The second night I was confronted by 3 young black prostitutes. Later that evening I kept hearing black guys entering and leaving the room next door, slamming the door every time. The third night a black guy mugged a guest and stole evrything from the guests room. There was constant turmoil each evening, the police were called and brought the police dogs.

I called for pizza delivery and the person at the pizza place said they didn't deliver to the Motel 6 because it was too dangerous. There was no coffee pot in the room, the television worked occasionally. The bath towels were so thin that it took 2 towels to dry off. I called the front desk each evening and asked them to give me a wakeup call at 6:00am. They never did call and I over slept each morning causing me to be late for business appointments.

The bed mattresses were thin and uncomfortable and about 1' off the floor,
I have been traveling for 37 years and, without a doubt, this was my worst motel experience.

'...I kept hearing black guys entering and leaving the room next door, slamming the door every time.' Does a door slammed by a black guy make a different sound from a door slammed by a (insert color) guy? What can you expect from a motel in the ghetto?

Reluctantly I voted helpful as this post has the criteria of giving the location and describing the problem.
However, (and others can vouch for my "non politically correct stance") I don't think that the mention of the race of the characters had any relevance to the complaint.

this sounds a bit racist to me. in such, i believe about .01% of this.

if the poster has traveled for 37 years, they would have known how to choose a better class of overnight accomodations.

It was a Motel 6 for god's sake!
What did you expect?

They get their name from the fact that it used to cost six bucks a night to stay in one of those fleabags..

Most of these joints are little better than a ghetto crack-house!

An average hotel now costs $75-100 per night, and I believe Motel 6 is still around $40-50. As with most other things, you get what you pay for. Next time, find a nicer hotel in a nicer part of town. I hope they at least left a light on for you.

It is too bad that your experience was not a good one, but Motel 6 is not exactly a four star hotel, so I would expect a few issues. Why did you stay all four nights? If I was confronted by anyone, black, white or other, I would have packed up and left.

This is a very racist review and some of your comments, what does it matter what nationality the prostitute or the people slamming the door were. You sound like a picky biggot. Not helpful

Why would a seasoned traveler like you ever choose to stay at a Motel 6?

While the poster makes some comments that can be considered a bit racist, you get the feeling nothing here is untrue. Personally, I think the review is a great warning to anyone planning a booking here.

Just stay clear of the fat drunk guy in a bath robe on the 2nd story balcony.

though i'll be honest... if you stay in a really cheap motel do not be surprised if it is utilized by prostitutes

"we'll leave the light on for you" - just remember that light might be a red light

Very interesting review. I do have to say that a seasoned traveler should have been able do a better job even sight-unseen. We all have to do it. One of the things you look at is the Hotel chain. You are apparently a cheap, seasoned traveler. The other thing I try to do is find out if the neighborhood is considered safe. I'm not a seasoned traveler, but I've managed to avoid a situation this bad so far. And I agree there was no need to mention the race of the individuals. This black guy I work with told me so.

There are motels like this in every urban city.
They aren't hard to spot even before you check in.
It seems that the OP has a phobia of "Black street hustlers" which I don't blame them one bit.
The moment I saw that type of element, I would have gone smewhere else.

My parting question would be were there any "law abiding Blacks" in this dump or did you even take time to notice?

hell back when i was in my first navy school there was on hotel/motel that was off limits to the navy... mainly because they rented rooms by the hour.

so yeah it was pretty much obvious it was being used for prostitution

The had a few of those out here.
Cars, guests, rules, appearance and ownership say a lot about a motel.
