Lead Provider To Contractors - Complaint
Review by TKenney on 2009-06-06
We signed up with MyFreeEstimates.com to receive leads for our home improvement business. We deposited over $6000 with them, with the agreement that they would provide bona fide leads. They did provide leads. LOTS of them. However, MOST of the leads were old, cold and useless. A number of them showed up earlier from some of our other lead providers, leading us to believe that MyFreeEstimates is buying leads from other REAL lead providers, and recycling them. I would estimate that one in 50 leads was worth anything at all. Out of several hundred leads, costing us thousands of dollars, we were able to set three appointments and made one sale. Our history from our other providers is that we set 50% of the leads we receive and sell about half those leads.
The problem is that MyFreeEstimates refuses to give credit for leads that are obviously bogus. For example, three leads in the past couple of weeks told us that they had filled out a raffle over a YEAR ago at a local fair, which included a referral for home improvement. We got that lead, and, of course, that homeowner had long since gotten his needs met. Our request for a credit was refused. Why? Because the phone number was good and the homeowner was an actual person. They are totally uncooperative. We threatened to sue, and here is their response (from an email received today): "It would cost you more to come here to sue (yes, you would have to come here) than you have paid and you would lose and get stuck with our attorney fees as well. Your threats to sue do not impress." That's what they call customer service.
We would encourage all contractors to beware of this bogus "lead provider." They are probably making a lot of money. Make sure it is not yours.
