Target - Alexandria, LA Complaint - Good Check Not Good Enough At Target
PINEVILLE, LOUISIANA -- Everyone that knows me also knows that I love Target and shop there exclusively for almost everything. Love the upscale on a budget feel to the store and merchandise carried.
That being said, I am shocked at the turn the store has taken in the last 2 years.
Their return police, while I can appreciate is designed to deter shoplifting also punishes loyal customers. I really do not know the answer to that, except to say that the attitudes of management should be extremely sensitive to this fact. In my experience the opposite has been true.
The return policy while it has bitten me once, only served notice that things were a changing at my favorite store. My real grief is over being completely embarrassed at checkout over the "systems" refusal of my check!
Not once but twice, first time not so bad, I had a debit card on me that was accepted. Now get this they are DRAWING MONEY FROM THE SAME ACCOUNT. So apparently with target debit card money is preferable to check money!
The only requirement for accepting a check should be money in the bank to cover said check. Merchants no longer have to cross their fingers and hope you are honest. They have the ability electronically to KNOW.
And that is precisely my problem. Targets issue with my check was not that there was not sufficient money in my account because there was, PLUS, THERE IS NO HISTORY WITH ME FOR NSF EVER.
The clerk was very insensitive, all she could do was say call the 800 number. Never did she offer me a target phone or indicate that she was interested in me actually leaving the store with my $122.00 purchase of soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies, all small items that take valuable time and effort to select!!
Upon calling this mysterious 800 number that belonged to certigy I related the events of the morning. I was told that the stores check refusal must have been a mistake because I was on "elevated" check status. When I asked what that meant she rattled off a list of places that I had recently written a check to, among them Lowes, Sears, Kmart, Petsmart.
I also asked if certigy was part of Target or a 3rd party vendor. Twice I was told that they were indeed Target management. I now know this to be false.
Bottom line is this, things are tough, money is tight. I will not shop where I am not appreciated. I will pay more if I have to. That is precisely the reason I have always preferred Target to WalMart. I was willing to pay a little more to escape that madhouse.
I do not appreciate taking the effort to select a buggy full of small necessary items only to be told at checkout that my money is no good.
I will do without before I put up with that.
