Spirit Airlines Complaint - Seat Assignment Fees
To my knowledge, no major US airline yet charges a fee to have your seat assigned prior to airport check in. Imagine my surprise after purchasing 4 tickets for the family that I also had to pay fees for each member for each leg if we wanted seats too. Well, it's not quite that bad. If you want to have a seat along with a boarding pass without paying more money, you can check in at the airport and take a seat assigned to you there at 'random'. If you want to choose your seat in advance on-line as you can with every other airline to my knowledge, you have to pay 7-20 dollars for each passenger, each leg. I'd think this would work to the airline's detriment as far as check in lines, added responsibility for flight attendants, etc.. We haven't taken the flight as of this writing. Hopefully, all will go well. But you know...it makes me a little uneasy. If an airline is this deceptive and this desperate to get a competitive edge, I'm a bit concerned where else they may cheat, deceive or cut corners. Hopefully, not in regards to safety. Anyway, the bit of money I MIGHT save on Spirit (there may be more surprises I don't know about) certainly is not worth the hassle along with my concern and suspicion. We'll never fly Spirit again even if they gave us tickets.
