General Question Informative - New Appliances

Review by Micky1 on 2009-06-10
Building new house and wondering if anyone can offer any advice on appliances/brands that they LIKED and that worked well.

I'm looking at the Consumer's Reports 2009 Appliance reviews for the top performers, but then read so many negative comments for the different brands that it makes me leery to buy any of em!

We're looking at top-freezer refrigerators, electric, smooth-top ranges w/ convection, an over-the-range microwave, and a basic dishwasher.

Any positive feedback on electric washer & dryers would help also. (I've already read through the dissatisfied ones).

Sorry no positive recos here. We have the GE Profile line of appliances... I have not been too impressed. The fridge icemaker has broken twice... fortunately within 1 year so it was covered under the manufacturer warranty. The wall oven takes like an hour to cool down (fans blowing loudly). The dryer has a lint collection problem, it doesn't seem to collect all the lint in the catcher, a lot of it gets past and collects all around the door, and also some gets inside the inner-workings of the dryer (dangerous). The dishwasher had at one point seemed to warp itself where the door stopped closing... I had to whack it a few times to get it to fit again.

Long story short... The stainless looks nice... but not impressed with the quality.

with all the reviews here, seems the higher end have all the issues. maybe just basic models are best.

Mix brands if you see things you like from different manufacturers. I think Whirlpool or their pricier kitchen aid sisters are a solid line throughout. I like Ge across the board too.
