JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS -- I rented an open U-haul trailer to haul a wood furnace. The owner of the gas station installed the U-haul for me. I hooked up the trailer lights. I drove down the interstate to the town 30 miles away to pick up the wood furnace. I took an exit about half way there to stop and pick up my father. As I got onto the exit the U-haul came loose from the ball on my truck and beat up the back of my truck. The safety chains even came loose from the hitch. Now remember the owner of the gas station (who I thought was more than qualified to install it )installed it for me. Safety chains and all (Except for the wiring which I plugged in). It also tore the wiring harness in half. I called my father to bring me tools to reinstall the trailer. While I waited I repaired the wiring. I called the gas station as soon as it happened and told them I would stop by there after I was done. When I got there the owner told me he had no insurance for U-hauls, that I would have to call U-haul. At first they were very nice and said they would pay for all damages. Their investigator called me was was very rude to me blaming me for the whole thing. Even after I told her that the owner had installed it. They sent me a letter denying my claim. I turned it in to my insurance and they called their insurance. They told my insurance it was my word against theirs. So now I have to pay an extra 250.00 A year for 3 years to have my truck fixed. I will not rent from them again!
So don't use the U-haul rental on Morton ave in Jacksonville Illinois (truck stop) if you get desperate. Install it your self!
