American General Complaint - American General Complaint

Review by American General Complaint on 2009-06-20
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA -- American General charges a late charge on top of late charges.

I have had a (mattress) loan with American General for a little over a year now. My husband got this loan because it is a no interest loan that we pay a little each month on. We missed our due date by one day and received a late charge. Unaware, we made the same payment the next month. Since we did not know of the late charge, we did not add that to the bill. We received a call two weeks later saying that we now have two late charges. In trying to understand my error, I spoke with (typical collections kids) who questioned my integrity so I quickly asked for a manager. This manager insisted they do not charge late charges on top of late charges, yet plain and simple, I have to pay more now because I... well you know, got charged a late charge on top of the late charge. They will courteously waive one, however two is unheard of. This company does not treat their contract abiding customers with respect. Go with a different financial company.

I understand your point. But, as you admit, you were late. Which also means you failed at abiding by the contract. Since the late fee was unpaid by the next due date another was incurred. If this was the only time this happened they should have worked with you though. OTOH, American General is not one of your better finance companies. Good luck.
