Target Complaint - Paranoid and unprofessional employees.
VALENCIA -- Recently while at a Target store I realized I was being observed by target employees as I was looking at a PC game I was planning to buy. I was there only a few minutes as five or six employees eventually gathered just to the left of where I was standing. I noticed they were calling security to come quickly and overheard one of them say "he’s scanning the box to steal the info/key." That got my attention as I was checking the online price of the item on my phone which had internet access. I had searched target.com and found the discounted price, but the in store price showed differently. I tried to convince myself that maybe I was just being paranoid and continued with what I was doing. Eventually I just took it up to the cashier and had a price check before proceeding to buy the item, all the while closely watched and observed by the other employees. All in all it made the shopping experience very awkward and uncomfortable with 5-6 set of eyes following my every move. The whole time I was there I did not recall ever acting like I was trying to stuff it down my pants or anything that anyone normal would consider suspicious. As I walked out the store, I noticed a security guard waiting for me at the door who then followed me out observing my every move. I have never experienced anything like this before and personally, I will probably never shop there again.
Being someone who's tech savvy, and to hear someone say "he’s scanning the box to steal the game info or key" from a shrink wrapped boxed while standing in the middle of a wide open shopping area makes no sense whatsoever. If that was possible now, people would just buy software, scan it, and return for a full refund. Plus, the fact that none of them even tried to offer customer service type assistance and or questions goes to show the kind of “service” or lack thereof. They reminded me of a herd of gazelles assured by the safety in numbers and somehow I was the predator.
I'm often very passive with situations like this and would just brush it off, but this has got to be the tipping point so I figured I would post this to see if anyone else has had experiences where salesperson thinks your use of your internet phone in store is somehow part of a criminal intent.
