Delta Complaint - Continuous overbooking and delayed.....

Review by Nis on 2009-06-23
I have been a frequent flier of Delta but currently very disappointed in the nature of the Guyana flights. A family member was scheduled to return home however the flight was overbooked. He was given a voucher and then placed on another overbooked flight as standby. Aside from the flights from and to JFK-GEO always being delayed, this seems to be a recurring theme with Delta...There was so many people overbooked. It saddened me to see otheres missing the funeral of family because the flight was OVERBOOKED AND NOT DUE TO THE PASSENGER BUT DELTA. I mean how can so many people be placed on standby for Delta's negligence. This truly saddens because I enjoy traveling with Delta for my domestic and international vacations..

Overbooking is a reality that everyone needs to deal with. The best thing you can do is to pre-reserve a seat. When you call an airline and book a flight they don't ask you about seating requests. If you ask them to pre-reserve seats they are held until 20 minutes prior to departure. So even if someone show up at the ticket counter to check in before you, they can't get your pre-reserved seats. They are on the standy list at the gate not you. PRERESERVE YOUR SEATS!

When a traveler is told that a flight has been overbooked and the reserved seat is not available then don't let the gate agent rebook. Call the airline and let them rebook to an actual seat, not standby.

Passingby, That's not how it works. An airline reservations agent (on the phone) cannot release pre-reserved seats for other passengers. Calling them doesn't do any good. It actually can be done, but the RSA is not going to put their job in jeopardy by doing it. I did it a couple of times, but it's not the norm.
