Cheeseburger in paradise Complaint - Almost 3 hours, an undelivered meal and two disgruntled customers who will never return

TERRE HAUTE,, INDIANA -- A few weeks ago my soon to be husband and I popped out for a bite to eat and to go catch the late night showing of Transformers. Since we had no children with us, we were expecting it to be a well deserved date night. Things turned out rather disastrous.

The selected restaurant of choice was Terre Haute's Cheeseburger in Paradise. Now granted, on a Monday night there were few cars in the lot and maybe ten patrons inside.

After getting seated (which was right away) we waited for fifteen minutes before the waitress came by to take our drink orders. Considering we did not have menus, we could not order. So we waited another ten minutes, while she went to complete what should have been a simple task.

Almost a half hour past and we were just receiving our drinks. (I feel the need to iterate here, we were the only people in the place not sitting at the bar. So we were the only table the waittress had.)

After waiting another several minutes, and both of our glasses sitting empty on the table we managed to flag down a gentleman who stepped out onto the floor from the back, who was kind enough to locate our waittress. We had been ready to order for probably another twenty minutes when our waittress showed up, took our glasses and refilled them. When she returned to the table we informed her we were ready to order. She informed us she had to make a quick trip to the kitchem to grab her notepad and she would be right back.

Finally after what seemed a decade, and two more empty glasses she returned to the table to take our order. I ordered a beach burger, medium with all the trimmings on the side. My fiance ordered the same thing, only plane and well done. She went to put in our order, but did not take our glasses to refill them.

Almost an hour and a half into our visit we were checking our watches once more. Our meal had still not arrived and, our glasses still sat empty and our waittress was nowhere in sight. Finally one of the cooks from the back delivered our meal, and was even kind enough to refill our glasses for us.

My fiance's meal was fine. It was served hot, and freshly cooked. I'm not sure how it transpired but my meal not so much. It was cold, as though it had been sitting off to the side for quite sometime, and my trimmings had been forgotten along with my fries.

Well, all in all, with our waittress having done a bang up job I flagged down the bar tender, who was very polite and took my meal back for me. However, after another twenty minutes of waiting and watching several patrons come and go my meal was never returned. At this point, my fiance ate and I did not. Either way, after almost a 3 hour visit he finished his meal and we walked out, refusing to pay. Apparently the manager was not onsite, but they did not give us a fuss about the free meal.

Anyhow, I won't be returning to any Cheeseburger in Paradise any time soon. They are overpriced (ten dollars for a simple burger >.< Come on people) and their service is the pits.

Which explains why they were sold.

You waited this long for what reason? I would have finished my drinks, left a couple of dollars on the table, and simply left. Goduke, who bought them? I ate at one about a year ago, and it was very good.

Jimmy Buffett bailed out a while back (2005), and sold his interest to the OSI side of the deal (the Outback guys). OSI said a few months ago they were going to sell to a group run by the chain's president.

You must have the patience of a saint. If it took nearly an hour just get drinks served, couldn't you guess how long you'd probably be waiting for your food? I got horrible service like that once at one of the restaurants inside New York New York Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. After a 20 minute wait for a table my party and I were virtually ignored once we got a table. We saw people who came in after us get waited on before us so we finally just walked out without spending a dime. This happened probably 7 or 8 years ago and it was such a bad experience I still remember it (obviously).

The staff of that restaurant were probably wasted away again in Margaritaville. No wonder the service was subpar...the waitress probably blew out a flip flop and stepped on a pop top. As for the rest of the staff, there's booze in the blender, and soon it will render, that frozen concoction that helped them hang on...until it was time for your order to be made. They were too stoned to understand that you liked your cheeseburger with lettuce and tomatoes, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes.

What never ceases to amaze me how the service ALWAYS slows down when there's only a few patrons in the place!
