National Car Rental Complaint - Small Print
While on vacation, we rented a car from National Car Rental. One day, we thought that we might have gone through a toll, without paying for it. We noted that the toll was $1. When we checked the car back in, we told the clerk what had happened and asked to pay for the toll, just in case. She advised that it wouldn't be necessary and that she didn't see anything about a toll charge. We believed her, and went home. Over a month later, we receive a letter in the mail stating that they charged our credit card for $11. $1 for the toll, and $10 for their "adminstrative fee" for taking care of the ticket. I e-mailed a complaint and said that we would much rather have paid the $1 at the time of check out. Their response was that I should have made sure of the ticket with the municipality and not with their clerk. And, that while the administrative fee may seem "extreme" in this case, it is their standard fee and would not be changed. I will never deal with their company again.
