Midas Complaint - Trust the Midas touch, but not the Midas estimate
My Ford truck and my Mitsubishi Eclipse needed new brakes, so I took them into Midas believing I could trust the words of a popular company. After 6 hours of waiting, I find out each vehicle would cost respectively $540.86 and $568.86, This being for JUST front brakes on the truck, and then front and rear on the Eclipse. I told them forget it and to put 'em back together, then to give me the estimates.
I then took these cars to three other mechanics, all of whom said they would not only do it for cheaper, but when inspected, found that the eclipse in fact did not even need new front brakes or rotors, and that the truck actually could use both front and back brakes. Good call Midas.
In the end I payed $312 for the truck and $182 for the Eclipse, a total of $494, as opposed to the about $1110 I would have paid at Midas, for even some of the wrong parts.
