Suncoast energy orlando airport Complaint - Ripped off in orlando

Review by allwet on 2009-07-14
Had to return our rental van and wanted to top off the tank before returning at the orlando airport. typical Florida downpour and this was the first gas station we came to. we stupidly assumed the gas prices would be competitive with the local stations which were posted at $2.59 per gallon. suncoast was $4.39 a gallon. the only plus was it was a topping off and we weren't totally ripped off. someone needs to inform suncoast, oil is now under $60.00 a barrel. shame on them.

They've been ripping people off for years. :(

I would guess that the owner 'knows' someone in the legislature because the price gouging is illegal. They do indeed violate the price gouging statute of Florida. Many gas stations have been penalized but somehow this one is missed.

I don't think this is price gouging, as the Fla Statues clearly say that it has to be in conjunction with a declaration of an emergency for the price gouging guidelines to kick in:

This is the typical "my gas station is close to an airport and I know people are in a hurry to check in their rental cars" type of activity you see in a lot of places.

If you don't like the price you always have the choice to take your business elsewhere. Any station close to the airport in Orlando will charge you an arm and a leg due to it's proximity to Disney World.

If it is the same station everyone complains about then I know what's happening. The car rental companies require you to top off at a location closest to the airport and show a receipt to them. As this station is obviously on the way to the airport, they know they have been put in a very profitable situation. Customer service means nothing to someone put in a position to gouge customers (usually out of town customers.)
