Sears Complaint - Water Heater Scam
We purchased a Sears water heater on January 15, 2005. It came with a 6 year warranty. That means that after the first year, we pay for labor and Sears pays for parts through year 6.
On May 19, 2008 the unit went out. We called Sears for service. They sent a 3rd party contractor who replaced the pilot assembly. We paid him $70 for service and Sears covered the parts.
On July 10, 2009 the unit went out again. We called Sears again for service. A different Sears contract plumber showed up and announced that we owed him $70 just for showing up and that it would be $150 if he did anything. Sears would cover the parts. We told the service man to get lost and take us to small claims court for the service call.
A friend of ours picked up a $6 thermocouple and fixed it in 15 minutes for free.
Sears is obviously selling junk as a come on to sell future service calls. What is their "kick back" on the service call from their sleezy 3rd party contract plumbers?
