Spirit Airlines Complaint - The savings will end up costing you in the end
The first time I rode with spirit airlines will be my last. To start with they canceled my initial flight without any notification. I was booked to leave at 10:30 and they canceled that flight and moved me to at 8:00 A.M. flight without any notification. If I had not checked on my itinerary a few days before I would have ended up missing this flight and not getting out till the next day. Then on my flight back we sat in the on the plane in the terminal for over an hour while they fixed some mechanical and balancing issues. Once we arrived at our destination we were informed that a storm had started and we would have to stay in a holding pattern for 20-30 minutes. After holding for that length of time we then were told the airport had closed, so we would have to fly to Fort Mercer and refuel. While we were refueling we found out the airport had reopened but everyone on connecting flights had missing their connection. We ended up sitting on the plane before arriving to our destination for 6 hours. Only once did they provide any beverage service, which you had to pay for. During the time that we were diverted and sitting on the plane waiting they never gave us another beverage service or an opportunity to buy food or drinks. When we arrived we were sent to ticketing to get re-booked and informed that the hour delay was not the reason we missed our flights it was the weather and therefore our hotel rooms would not be compensated. We tried to argue with them, all 37 passengers, but they insisted and we were stuck paying $80 for a hotel room and buying dinner finally at 12 A.M. in the morning. When I talked to the people at the hotel they told us that this happens all the time and Spirit NEVER pays for anyone’s hotel room no matter what.
This trip ended up costing me $250 more than expected, which would have made cheaper to get a direct flight with a reputable company. I talked with other people that were staying at the hotel because of missed connections that had flown with Continental and they told us that they not only paid for their room, but also gave them $20 in vouchers for the Denny’s across the street.
