I fly all the time. From experience I can tell you that Southwest is hands down far superior to ALL of the other airlines. As a matter of fact, I am getting off a 2 week cruise at the Port of Miami in January and paying a shuttle to take me to the Ft. Lauderdale airport so I can fly back on Southwest. Southwest doesn't fly out of Miami.
The extra expense will far compensate me for the lack of stress I would otherwise experience for delayed flights, baggage problems, etc. that I have experienced on multiple occasions with the other airlines.

I think the people at Southwest make the difference. While all airlines have some really great employees in addition to some really bad apples, Southwest Airline employees come off as happier on the whole.

I'm with the OP and IAC, I like Southwest. Good people and they run a pretty good ship. If I had an issue it would be their lack of long flights. I went from JWA to Ft. Lauderdale and had to make two change of planes along the way. Kind of a pain but all of them (both directions) were on time so I got over it pretty quick. Nice review, thanks for posting it.

when i lived in dallas, i had to use southwest only. dallas is one of their hubs. the airport is just north of downtown, traffic is esy, parking easy, and the airline staff always had a pleasant smile and were/are willing to offer assistance. gotta love those orange planes, them thar ar tennessee colors!!

Southwest is an employee owned airline. They work for themselves and it shows with their superior service. Now if they can only keep their aging 737 aircraft safe.

I will play devil's advocate and say that while I like Southwest and think they rock at flying high traffic short haul routes, they don't care/want/need to fly many routes that people need to travel.
Southwest rules markets like Dallas to Houston or Portland to Boise, but good luck if you want to fly them from New York to London or Lincoln to Shreveport. International destinations and small city routes don't fit the Southwest business model, but people still need to get between those types of cities which is where the American's, Delta's and United's of the world come into play.
It is very tempting to say Southwest, Jetblue and Airtran are better run airlines because they make money these days, but at the end of the day they fly to a fraction of the destinations that major airlines do. When Southwest can get me from Jackson Hole to Dubai, or when Delta gives up on all the small cities they serve, then we can start comparing the two types of airlines.

My husband flew home on them in June from Detroit to Phoenix and found them FAR superior to United who he traveled to Michigan on.
As an in-house corporate travel agent, they are much easier, more pleasant to deal with than ANY other airline I can think of.

Yes, I'm a snowbird and live in Mesa,AZ half of the year. I fly SW in and out of Phoenix, Reno, Denver, Albuquerque, LAX, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas and Kansas City all the time and continue to believe they are the best by far, no contest. One airline whose name won't be mentioned (hint: UA) is so terrible I will never fly them again.

^_^ SW is definitely my favorite air line, the crew is friendly and helpful, if we are ever delayed the captain always makes sure to apologize, even though it's not his fault. And I have yet to have them lose my luggage. And for the great service they provide their prices are very reasonable.

Southwest is my favorite airline hands down! Great people, and great prices. They definitely have have their priorities straight.

Southwest Airlines is also featured this year on the TLC network in "One the Fly" which is formatted similarly to the former "Airline" show. Check it out on TLC cable network.
