Somerset Medical Center, Somerville NJ Complaint - Somerset Medical Center Can Make Mistakes

Review by blet373 on 2009-07-26
SOMERVILLE, NEW JERSEY -- While recently attending to a family member's critical care, Somerset Medical Center, Somerville NJ, made several serious drug prescription errors.

The first emergency stay resulted in 3 prescription errors being found after the member returned home and finished taking the meds.

The second emergency stay at the same hospital was even more worrying. Before discharge, the family checked 3 times and discovered 4 serious errors in the medication prescribed, the dosage, how many and for how long.

This is a serious problem with any hospital and pharmacies are just as bad. Check several times. Get the instructions in writing. Ask questions, then take everything to your family doctor to triple check the prescriptions and instructions.

When you fill the prescriptions, count everything out before you begin. The pharmacy we went to shorted the number of pills in the bottle by 10 (ten)!

This is America, the highest standard of health care in the world?

Good advice. You must realize, many of this type of thing is handled by the lowest paid employees. Check and double check.

But I do have a question: What is "triple dog checked"? Is that like "strenuously object" as in "A Few Good Men?"

Well, this poster has come back and edited the post removing the "triple dog checked" part of the review.

He has also mixed information from a previous review about a pharmacy. His credibility has now dropped. Is it the hospital or the pharmacy who is in error? It's hard to tell now.
