Heaths Automotive Paint Complaint - Poor service from Heaths auto paint

Review by Tomwith ranchero on 2009-08-05
PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZONA -- Recently I went into Heaths Auto Paint-an auto paint supplier in Prescott Valley-I was treated like an old friend -given service as if I were a long time customer. They did not have the Fast reducer I wanted to use when painting my 1966 Ranchero-but the owner advised that I use Limco`s LR13. He said this is a slow reducer and will work fine --Well this was the WRONG reducer --They sold me LR13-They should have sold me LBR14 but were out of it. I sprayed my car -but the basecoat would not dry. I called the store for suggestions to the problem and was told to call the owner--" But don`t lie to him". The owner did not listen to my concerns, he asked where I purchased my clear coat-I replied -from the internet. At this time the owner went into a rant about how stupid people are for buying off net and insisted it was my problem and refused to offer any help. I also called BASF-the manufacturer of LR13 and was told " Not to be used for basecoat-I should have used LBR14". Relaying this conversation to owner his answer was " that guy is a jerk-he don`t know what he is talking about" Anyway it is 3 + weeks after starting paint job and I am still stripping the soft basecoat off my car and will need to start over on this part of my 2 year long restoration. So my advise is --Don`t buy from Heaths Automotive Paint!! This will end up costing me about 3 times the original price PLUS I had to start over. ASK AROUND I know others have had similar dealings with HEATHS.
Company Response on 02/09/2011:
The clearcoat is the problem with the gentlemans paint job. We replicated his process with an approved clearcoat and were successful. This gentleman had no recourse with the internet purchase and wanted us to take care of the defective clear that he purchased on the internet not from us. The BBB found that his complaint had no merit.

Moved From Other Review: The gentleman that placed the bad review had a problem with the clearcoat drying. He purchased the clearcoat from a company on the internet and had no recourse so tried to get us to pay for it. We tested the product that he had the complaint about and it worked perfectly with our approved clearcoat. The BBB found that his complaint had no merit after looking at both sides of the story.

Car was repainted using same clear as before-I bought same brand product with proper reducer from KC Paint in Prescott--great results !!! Heaths DOES NOT belong to BBB so they could not make ruling ---and YES buyers DO have recourse when buying from internet--catch up with technology.

I have been a long time customer of Heath’s Automotive Paint. Through their store I have purchased and applied Sikkens, PPG and also Omni products. Over the years I have worked with different employees changes in ownership and have found the service to be nothing but professional. I can understand why a business would be apprehensive about working with a product that is neither sold, supported or recommended by the paint manufacturers represented by Heath’s. My experienced is based upon years of customer service provided by this business and I will continue to use them.
