Adventist Hospital, Portland, OR Complaint - Be Careful - Emergency Room

Review by Angel0101e on 2009-08-08
PORTLAND, OREGON -- I took my daughter into the emergency room on Aug. 1, 2009. Although, they took her right in, it took an hour before the Dr. came in and when he promised he would be right back with a nurse, he didn't come back for another hour. He gave us some wrong information, he didn't diagnose everything wrong with her. She had a fever for a week, diarrehia for over 2 weeks and vomiting for a week. She was in a great deal of pain, too. Plus she had bites or sores on her ankles that were getting worse. This Dr. didn't find she had a bladder infection or anal fissures. He nevefr said what was wrong with her at all! She needed antibiotics not pain med.

File a complaint with your state's medical board.

I hope your daughter is feeling better. Sounds like this ER doctor was an idiot!

If your daughter had a virus, antibiotics would not have worked. Busy as he must have been, the doctor should have made sure you knew what was wrong and what to do. There is no excuse for not doing that.

The ER is for immediate care. The next step is to call your primary physician. If you had done that, she never would have been so sick for two weeks.

I have seen allot of dumb things but this is one is up there. on july 16-17-18 you should have taken this child to your doctor "diarrehia for over 2 weeks" You said over two weeks???what is wrong with you. You can die from this..now who here is really to blame? It is always easy to blame someone else for your 'none actions', isn't it? Now "She had a fever for a week", "vomiting for a week. She was in a great deal of pain, too" and "she had bites or sores on her ankles that were getting worse" If you knew all this and did nothing on the on set of this childs sickness, I think child welfare should be called....and if I had been in the ER that would have happened.....

mis-diagnosis happens often. the bites were not related to the other issues she was having. doctors handle each case by if it is life threatening.

if this has been ongoing for two weeks, has you daughter made a visit to her personal doctor prior?
