Image Cellular Informative - Pager Scam/Consumer Fraud?

Review by Anonymous on 2004-06-16
AGOURA HILLS, CALIFORNIA -- Here's how the pager scam works:
A customer comes in to get the $70 special.
One year with a free pager thrown in to boot.
The clerk says "The pagers are so hard to
keep in stock that we don't have any left,"
then says thoughtfully "maybe we can make
one of these work," and pulls out a tray of
broken pagers and starts trying to make them
beep. When one seems to works, he gives it to
the customer saying "pagers don't always work,
sometimes you have to call them two or three times." After a couple weeks the customer comes back and says the pager doesn't work at all and the clerk says "too bad, we only warranty them for 15 days, you will have to buy a new one for $30." Really nice guy, eh.
