Northwest Airlines Complaint - Poor Service

Complaint
Review by flurim on 2009-08-12
EAGAN, MN -- My experience with Northwest was very horrible one. I have been flying for some time but nothing like this ever happen to me. On 7.31.09 I booked a round trip from JFK to Mcallen to fly on 8.7.09 Return 8.31.09. From past experience I know that you have to be at airport 1hr before the plane take of. I made sure of that and was asking for my ticket at 2;50pm for a 4pm flight. I was told by Northwest employee by name **** that I was late. I requested to speak with a supervisor to no avail, was given some eight hundred numbers to call though. Waited till 6pm for supervisor which never came and was told to come back the next day on standby, when I show up the next day they tell I don't qualify for a standby. The purpose of this trip was for my honeymoon, just got married in may, had plans to go in one of the islands and can't be replaced plus my vacation is being wasted. I intend to pursue this matter in courts.

I should mention that I have been trying to solve this matter with Northwest thru the phone and internet, also I have mailed to their mailing address in Minnesota and North Dakota. As today I haven't heard anything from them. My attorney intends to file with courts the paperwork.

If you were taking an international flight I think you have to be at the airport at least 2 hours if not 3 hours before takeoff. Sorry for your bad experience.

Simply arriving at the airport one hour before your flight is not enough time anymore, especially if that airport is JFK during the busy summer season. The check in system automactially locks you out at 45 minutes before departure, and lines at any NYC airport can take at least 15-30 minutes to even get to the kiosks on a good day.

My wife and I are taking a flight later this month, which I booked directly through United. It was posted very prominently on their reservation site to be at the airport no later than 2 1/2 hours prior to the scheduled flight time.
