Emusic.com Complaint - 7 day Trial period means 10,080 minutes EXACTLY

Review by Mario The Great on 2009-08-13
So, I decided to enroll in Emusic as a way of not paying $0.99 per song from itunes. I enroll in the trial period on August the 5th. Last night, the 12th, we decide to actually see if this is for us and look at some artists. Ummmmm, both my wife and I are 80's childs so we look for Madonna, Prince, Def Leppard, Ozzy, M. J., Soft Cell, Bon Jovi and a few others. Guess what? Not a single one of those artists are available! So, I decide to cancel it. This morning I see that they have ever so lovingly charged my card $11.99 and call the company up. I proceed to explain that I was well within my trial period and she tells me that it's based on days and I canceled at 12:53 A.M. So, I get into an argument with her and then her supervisor tells me that I subscribed at 12:45 A.M. on August 6th and canceled on August 13th at 12:53 A.M. I'm stunned. I ask if they go by DAYS or by MINUTES. He tells me that because in the United States they have different time zones (apparently they have the same time zones in India, Pakistan, Malaysia or the Philippines), everything is based on time to the minute. I ask if he's going to reverse the charges and he said "I'm sorry, you canceled your membership AFTER the trial period. - Is there anything else that I can help you with?" Well, DANG - they got me and they got me good. Just make sure you know what time you enroll in any of the dang trial periods! FYI - I could just dispute the charge but I think they taught me a lesson. :) Hope this helps. No Ozzy or Prince - :P

I actually cancelled within my trial period so I was not charged. I realized right away that their available selections were very limited.

Their tacticts are terrible, this will warn people. But, I gotta ask you... it took you 7 days to figure out there werent any artists you werent interested in? Stuff like this I am a kid in a candy store... I look for what I want right away and if nothing interests me, I cancel the same day.

I get Spam from them all the time, I see it this way, If any company wants you to enter credit card information for a free trial.

Then its not really a free trial, its just a excuse so they can have access to your account.

I hear you Wally. Mine is set at the same. I would turn it down to 68 but my hubby says he feels like he lives in a meat locker. LOL!!

Wally, you crank it down to 70. You use Axe when you're cranking it up. Remember? lol!

Does anyone have any other ways to offer 7 days of free service that does not penalize people in certain time zones or those that sign up late at night on the first day? 10,080 minutes is actually 7 24-hour days.
