Providian Complaint - Problems with Providian Financial.
HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA -- As a consumer from your state, I felt it was my responsibility to bring to your attention the following incident.
Dear Pennsylvania Attorney General, I have a problem stemming from a credit card account that was recently paid in full, and closed. On May 18th, my husband closed his Providian credit card, and was supposed to have paid his balance in full. He even double checked with his customer service rep to make sure all charges were dealt with before paying it off and closing it. I even have a letter dated from May 18th from Providian stating that our request for our account to be closed has been fulfilled. Today, June 19th I have recieved a statement saying that we owe $8.08. We called to ask why, and were told that the billing cycle stops May 10th, and that we paid the account on May 18th. They are telling us that we accrued 8 days interest from the 10th to the 18th. As I stated my husband made sure the account was paid in full before closing it, and was told he had paid it in full. Now they are trying to make us pay this $8.08. They had 8 days from the 10th to the 18th to figure out all interest accrued. I also have to add that the account was late while waiting for our loan to go through to pay off our credit cards. My husband paid $191.00 in late fees, and over the limit fees, and interest. The card actually was under the limit, but they added on so many fees that it caused it to go over the limit. I'm not sure there is anything that can even be done about them charging excessive fees. However, we have already paid an exorbitant penalty for being late, and quite frankly I do not feel I owe this company one more red cent. If we owed them money we gave them every last opportunity to let us know every last penny we owed them on the 18th. They had our account info on the computer screen in front of their faces so they had access to know exactly what we owed. When we were told our account was paid in full and, would be closed, we believed it. I have the letter stating our account was closed, and the statement saying we still owe money, if you want either of them.
As a resolution, I would like the following:
I do not want to pay $8.08. We already paid an exorbitant financial penalty for being late while waiting because our funds from our loan could not be disbursed for 72 hours after signing the papers. When they said our account was paid in full then that should mean our account was paid in full. I would like Providian to be notified to stop trying to collect money we do not owe, and to be told never to contact us again for any reason in the future. My business with them is done. I am burnt by their predatory practices, and do not wish to ever do business with them again for any reason.
