America Online Complaint - AOL charge whenever they please
CALIFORNIA -- DO not deal with AOL!!!!
In about 1998 I had an AOL account. That time I didn't have a credit card so I gave them my bank account number and they deducted the monthly service charge every month (about $20 each month).
It was a dial up service.. slow.. and I remember that once even if I used the local 510 area code from their list I have received a huge bill from Pacific Bell and they where saying that even if that was a 510 area code (same as my area - Oakland, CA) it is not really a local call (go figure).
Anyway.. this is about a different matter....
In 2001 I cancelled my AOL dial-up account and moved(US Air Force Texas).
However in 2002 I noticed an about $100.- deduction (from AOL) on my Washington Mutual bank statement.
I called up AOL and asked what is going on(?) I do not have an AOL account for about 2 years..
They sad that I still have a AOL DSL modem(!!!!????) I asked them to show me a document which is shows that I have ordered a DSL modem or service or anything... they couldn't, but they gave me a tracking number "proving" that the DSL modem shipped to my apartment. It was signed by a name I have never herd of and maybe was a security personnel at the apartment where I have lived. Anyhow I called Washington Mutual to put that money back to My account since that was unauthorized. They called AOL and called me back that they can not do anything since I have received the "product/service"
So AOL whenever they please - they can use my bank account number to charge me with whatever they want.
So - Do not be surprised even after years You cancelled AOL service they will find a way to charge You with something that You never even ordered.....and They will do it! They will do it without You permission! - using Your credit card or bank account...
I will never deal with AOL again!
Sorry for my English.....(second language)
Sincerely: Greg Papp
