Discover Card Complaint - You Will Get Screwed
I received a special balance transfer rate of 1.90% interest. No strings attached. A year later, Discover defaulted my account claiming I had not made a required $25 in new purchases. This changed my rate from 1.90% to 5.99%.
I call Discover and they re-instated my balance transfer to the 1.90% rate because they had failed to inform me of this new condition.
In order to satisfy this new condition, I set 4 regular monthly bills up on Autopay to Discover card, one of which is EMBARQ phone service.
Everything was perfect until my last Discovery Card statement where I noticed my finance charge had almost doubled. Upon investigating the cause, I found my Embarq July '09 statement stating that the amount of $35 (and change) will be charged to my credit card. On my AUGUST statement, it says my July payment was past due. Amount now due is $70 which will be charged to my credit card. I called Embarq. They had no explanation. Nevertheless, since this $35 did not go to Discover as a July charge, Discover defaulted my account. This time to 9.99% interest. The sum of the other 3 bills, was $22.82. Again, this fell $2.18 short of reaching the $25 minimal.
I called Discover Card. They absolutely refuse to re-instate the 1.90% interest rate. I am considering not paying any more on my balance until THEY CALL ME wanting their money.
I am very angry. I have been a card member since 1987. I have very good credit. Never late. This was not my fault. After 20 years of being a loyal customer to Discover, it is wrong for them to deny me being re-instated due to someone elses error and/or over $2.18.
