Friendly's Informative - Concerns of Food Safety in the Kitchen
ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA -- I'm writing this review in concerns of the customers eating at the Friendly's of Altoona. I used to be a former employee at one time and the steps that were taken towards cleanliness weren't all that good.(Where to begin)The dishroom lingered of black mold/mildew, with a touch of stale garbage that was fermenting under the dish machine. The grout from the tiles on the floor were half gone and replaced with bacteria from the food settling in there from days on end. In the cooking area the freezers and cooling compartments for the food were just simply horrendous and needed to be cleansed thoroughly, but was left for fungus to cling and multiply on to them. The Flat Top grills were terrible too with grease build-up and wrappers from the prepped food and other garbage, collectively gathering under them for over a week. The Desert stations had garbage, old icecream, and toppings for the icecream shoved under the shelves so far they were molding to the wall. Back in the walk-in cooler where the food is stored was a complete disaster on the floor and the shelving had rust and old food all over it.
They had good workers there, but unfortunately they ran few and far between, so it was hard for them to keep up on the mess doing it alone. The leadership skills in the restaurant were horrible and if they continued to be that way, I knew it was going to effect the cleanliness of the establishment. I have a friend that is currently working there and they claim it is still a sanitation issue and worse than it ever was.
I'm afraid someone is going to get ill because of the issues that surround sanitation and I hope the State Food Inspection will soon intervene to put a stop to it.
