Freecreditreport.com Complaint - Automatic Enrollment From Hell "FREE" CREDIT REPORT WILL COST YOU - Free Credit Report

Free Credit Report - Complaint
Review by rivieralife on 2009-08-23
This Company is the Company from Hell. I went online there to pull all 3 of my credit scores to get my FICO. Which is not free it is about $24.95. Their computer AUTOMATICALLY checks the box that enrolls you in credit monitoring even if you don't check it or uncheck it. Then without you being aware of it, you are billed $12.95 each month for credit montoring unless you cancel it. THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY! Avoid this webste at all costs. This company is a partner with Experian and consumercredit and these people are crooks.

Anytime you are about to spend money on line you need to scrutinize each and every page your are dealing with. DO NOT automatically check the "I have read the terms and conditions" box. READ THEM. A lot of grief can be avoided that way.

Remember, anytime you supply credit/debit card information you need be extremely cautious. Most of the sites count on you missing something important. Then they have got you (and your money).

It takes far less time (and far less costly) to make yourself completely aware of what you are getting into than it does to straighten it out after the damage has been done.

Also the real free credit report is from annualcreditreport.com

"Without you being aware of it . . ." How on earth did they get your credit card info if you didn't give it to them?

Maggie, go back and read the review again. He was buying a credit score. The enrollment is where he got caught.

My apologies, I did miss that. Time to get off the computer!

There is only one free credit report web site that will not try to deceive you. You can receive one free credit report annually from each of the three major agencies without paying a fee. If you do not sign up for their monthly reporting service they will not request your credit card information and you will not be billed.

I dealt with this last week in fact. I had signedup earlier in the month to view my credit report and wrote a note to myself to cancel w/i time frame. I forgot about it! I tried to go online and view the information again, but it didn't "recognize" me. I did another section-which signed me up for another monitoring system. However I called last week and spoke with an awesome rep who cancelled one of them. Due to technical problems, she asked me to call back about the other monitoring plan. So I did a few days later. I got it cancelled before they could charge me. They did not re-imburse me for the $14.95 that I was charged-which I didn't ask because I knew they wouldn't. Instead I have the service for a month until the cycle closes.
The website can be very confusing, but the company can be very helpful as well when you call them. Just be calm and polite!

You didn't read what you were signing up for. Make sure you know why each box is checked. You agreed to the charge; they shouldn't have to refund you.
