Holiday Campers, Greensboro, NC Complaint - Complaints of Coachman camper

Review by camperman on 2009-08-24
TOBACCOVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- I purchased a 2006 Coachman Spirit of America camper in 2006. After pulling 2-3 times the tires had to be replaced including the spare because of dry rot. We complained to the dealership where we purchased (Holiday Campers, Greensboro, NC) and after many complaints the tires were replaced at no cost to me. The issue is why would they put on campers and take a chance of the blowing. They said they were from China and probably sit on a lot for a few years in the sun. They the refrigerator had a problem which Holiday Campers repaired after charging labor costs. Then after less than 5,000 miles on the camper, the back side of wheel bearing seals blew out ruining the breaks causing up to $1,000 of damage which I am responsible for.

There are more issues with this camper but the main issue were problems of safety while pulling the camper. The Coachman series of campers are poorly and cheaply made. Coachman puts their money into advertising rather than quality.

You need to make sure you protect those new tires or they will be shot in 2-3 years as well. Trailer tires are more prone to UV damage because they sit so much.

To make up for this, manufacturers put more UV protectant in Type ST (trailer) tires. It's the flexing from use that causes new protectant to rise to the surface of the rubber. If your tires sit for expended periods of time, cover them with tire covers or keep a good coat of UV blocking tire protectant applied.
