Audiogon.com Complaint - Website Grabs Transaction Fees Even When They Aren't Entitled!
Resolution Update on 08/24/2009:
Audiogon did promptly credit the transaction fee associated with the item listing! I believe this was nothing more than a matter of proper communication! There efforts are very much appreciated! Thanks Audiogon!
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN -- There is a well known website for buying and selling "high-end" electronics called Audiogon. My overall experience with the website has been very good! I have posted several items for sale (they do charge a fee for each item listing)and for the most part have had success. Unknown to me, now the company charges a 1% fee based on the sale price of the item. If they have notified their registered members of this, they have done a poor job at best. Try to find out this information on their website! Try to call them! Nope....the only thing you can do is email them at audiogonservice.com. I recently listed two items for sale on their site. I was unable to sell the items and eventually traded them in at a respected electronics dealer. I closed out the transaction to mark it sold and left feedback for the dealer where I traded in the speakers. The dealer also left me positive feedback on the site. Consequently the two pairs of speakers I had listed were not sold on Audiogon. I logged into my account this morning and it showed a balance due of $26.48. According to Audiogon this is 1% of $2648.00. Here's the problem....the speakers were only listed at $2000.00 to begin with! What makes Audiogon think their entitled to 1% of $2648.00? Even if the item were sold through their website they would only be entitled to $20.00!!! I have my original receipt from the dealer where I purchase my new speakers and the receipt clearly shows both pairs of my old speakers being traded in at their location! I have had no further response from Audiogon. Apparently the poor economy has Audiogon scrambling for cash! I'll never post on their website again! I sent them a check with all supporting documentation this morning! I truly feel sorry for them, and believe they must need the money more than I do! A very poor way to do business however!
