Auto and Home Owner Insurance - Complaint
OHIO -- I've had Farmers insurance for years. They had great rates when I signed on and the rates were reasonably stable at first. However in the last three years my auto policy has gone up nearly 35% and my home owners has gone up 25+%. All this with being a "premium" customer - i.e. good credit, no claims, clean driving record, etc. I also have all of the usual cost reducers in place - high deductibles, low liability coverage, and so on. Farmers - if you can't appreciate your money-making customers, then I am moving on!

If you have no claims, then simply shop for another insurance company. Low initial premiums are a fairly common tactic used by many insurance companies.

Over the last 30 years I have found I must change insurance companies about every three years. By doing this I have kept my premiums fairly constant. Allowing for maybe a 3% increase per year.

goduke - I contacted the agent, a very nice guy, and was basically told "tough - this is how it is." The same thing happened when I had State Farm for 12-13 years. After the initial honeymoon years, they just started boosting rates significantly each billing cycle. tnchuck100 - I think you are right - best advice is to be prepared to shop and re-negotiate every few years! I just found a new company that will save me plenty. :-)
