Discover Card Informative - Tricky practices
When I called Discover Card to cancel the card because I never used it, the representative was very well trained in getting business. When I finished the call, I had $6,000 of debt on the card, transferred in from a 9 months same as cash deal. The bill wasn't due on the same as cash, but Discover would only offer this deal "now". I would not have to pay anything until I wanted to unless I did not buy something (a stick of gum was suggested) by a certain time period. I did charge something by that specified time. I have continued to use the card occasionally. Today I got a bill with a huge finance charge; I called and was told that I didn't charge anything last month so I had to pay a lot of interest. He said that if I didn't charge something one month, the entire interest I owed would be added on, as was recorded in that phone call that I initiated orginially. I asked afor a copy of the recording and he thought that was real funny and said I would never get a copy of that. I said then how do I know that you (Discover) even said that? He just sort of blew me off and said again I'd never get a copy. I'm cashing in a CD and paying the bill, then closing the account. I don't like unethical behavior and I do believe Discover Card is unethical in not showing me proof of such a statement.
