Lake Norman Toyota Complaint - Very sleazy dealership

Review by kedhmi on 2009-09-07
HUNTERSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- We contacted the dealership to see if they had any Rav4's in stock, they did. However the initial price that was quoted was high and the dealership is 2.5 hours away. Later in the afternoon, a Brian Doyle contacted us regarding the Rav4, and gave us a quote of $20,795. We found that to be a good deal, and told him that we would be there by 5:30pm. We drove 2.5 hours to get to the dealership. The salesman who greeted us was extremely helpful and friendly. However, when we sat down to discuss price and sign, Mr. Doyle claimed he had told us $21,795. This baiting made us so angry we left immediately. We have complained to Toyota about this dealership and its practices.

It's a $1000 difference. I don't know what they go for normally or what other prices you got in other dealerships, but for a 2.5 hr drive, I might have gotten miffed and tried to talk him down, but I don't know if I would have just gotten up and left.

Good luck with getting Toyota to respond to your complaint. They don't own the dealerships and could care less how the cars get sold, as long as they are sold. I tried to lodge a complaint with Hyundai about 4 years ago about a dealership near my house, but they basically told me to go pound sand.

That you were told they had one at a lower price then lied about it is rather sleazy. Their web page shows a 2020 Rav4 for $20,577.00. But you have to first call for availability then print and bring the ad to them for that price. I also noticed that they still promote the now defunct Cash for Clunkers program. Tells me that they don't update their web pages often enough.

This is not unusual in car sales. They will tell you anything to get you there. Then they will raise the price, add shipping, dealer prep, detailing, surcharges, taxes, title fees, doc stamps, finance fees, credit check fees, application fees, and on and on.

You did good. You must ALWAYS be ready to walk away when things start getting shady.

When car dealing I always demand the amount I am to write the check for. That is the only number I am interested in. I don't care how they arrive at it. I either like it or I don't. Simple as that.

The line in car ads I find the most hilarious is "We will pay off your trade NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU OWE!" How stupid!

This is sleazy. Yes, when talking car prices, $1,000 is significant and your were right to leave. If $1,000 was not significant, you were right to leave because they LIED. Screw them.

I know Lake Norman very, very well. I will never buy anything from Lake Norman Toyota, 13429 Statesville Road, Huntersville, N.C. 28078.

car sales have increased even after the cash for clunkers program. Dealers aren't discounting much off full MSRP anymore. $1,000 isn't much over the life of a car loan and is an insignificant amount of money amortized over the car loan unless the OP was paying full cash

What's really funny about the 'Cash for Clunkers' program is that in 6 months to a year a great number of the people (who purchased new cars)will default on their car just like thay did on their homes.

It's a shame. If $1,000 ain't nothing to worry about, why did these sleezy dealers have to lie about it?
