Best Buy Informative - Best Buy Geek Squad Miss Diagnosis
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- My DLP television keep turning itself off. So I changed the bulb and it lasted for a few days and kept turning itself off. I called the Geek Squad and they sent out a technician ($150). He never opened his tool bag, never hooked any diagnostic equipment to the television, just listened to my description. Told me the problem was an optic assembly. The repair cost would be $1100. He could not guarantee it would fix the problem. I decided not to repair the television since I could buy a new TV for the price of repairing this one. I was incensed in the fact I was charged for this service when all he did was listen.
My next day off I looked on-line for some help. I found several write-ups with the same problem that said to blow the dust off the electronics. I took my TV outside, pulled the cover and with a $5 can of air blew the dust off of the electronic components.
I've operated the TV for about 3 weeks now and it works great. I highly recommend surfing the net before calling any repair person or company and thank all you folks who take the time to put the information out there.
