BearShare Complaint - BearShare Cheats - Download Music

Download Music - Complaint
Review by Jade6 on 2009-09-09
I paid for and successfully downloaded 15 songs from BearShare's website. I could play the music on my WMP 9, but was not able to burn them or sync them to my mp3 player. Every time I tried to burn the 15 songs, I got "license required" message. The license was suppose to come with the payment I made. Also, I kept getting lewd pop-up ads; and my computer has been infected with embedded spyware and viruses from BearShare.

When I called their "customer service," I was told I couldn't get a refund for the "paid items," even though I told them it was unusable for the purposed I paid for.

Buyer beware--this is a bad news service!

Just tell them to send you the licenses you paid for.

I've always been very leery of any file sharing service. Most have some sort built in sharing mechanism that puts you at risk of illegally sharing your own files.

I used Bearshare in the past, but I would only use it on a virtual instance on my computer... meaning it did not have access to my main files, and it was "turned off" when I was not using it... It essentially lived in a bubble within my computer where it could do no harm.

Now a days I recommend folks steer clear of such programs. Too much trouble, or potential trouble!

"Also, I kept getting lewd pop-up ads"

I've never heard of this bear share but... are these LEGAL file downloads?

and if you're getting xxx popups check for spyware. if this bear thing is legal it won't be putting spyware on your computer...

simple way to check... if you get rid of all your spyware and the program stops working then it's likely not a legit service.

also just in case... make sure you (or anyone else who might use the computer) hasn't been to any lewd sites too (those will also give you popups)

Dispute the charge on your credit card.

As I understand it: you paid for the BearShare software.

The BearShare software is p2p software, meaning people can share their files with each other, regardless of whether or not they have licensing. There are very, very few songs available for download with licensing. Bearshare has no control over this.

For example, NIN's "The Slip" is lisenced because NIN wanted it to be an online, free, download-only album. Any other album by NIN is not liscenced. You have to pay for it.

Unfortunately, a lot of p2p sites prey on people in this way. It's not that they misrepresent themselves; it's just that the average consumer is not adequately informed. They just think if they pay money, the music will be legal. That's not the case.

You have to buy the SONGS. What you bought was a subscription to the software. It says so in the disclosure. You did read that didn't you? You also have to make sure your music player is compatible.

Never heard of bear share, but in the realm of illegal downloads why not try limewire?

From the FAQ's:

Q: What is the difference between the green and yellow tracks?
A: Actually, there are three types of tracks in BearShare - See below

1) Peer-2-Peer Unlicensed Media | Green CD icon

Free Peer-2-Peer downloads from other Bearshare users. Downloading these does not require a monthly subscription. You can burn this content or transfer it to an MP3 player freely.

2) Premium Tracks | Gold CD icon

Download as many as you wish, as long as you have an active monthly subscription (or trial).
This is all the music that is included in your Bearshare Premium subscription, and high-speed downloads are guaranteed!

3) Purchased Tracks | Boxed Gold CD icon

You can purchase Premium Tracks in order to burn them to a CD, or transfer them to an MP3 player*.
* Burning Premium Tracks to CD, or transferring them to a PlaysForSure MP3 player, is only possible after purchasing each track separately for 0.99ยข each, and is not included in the monthly premium subscription fee.
