Maytag Corporation Complaint - Poor Accountability
FORT WORTH -- Called Amana for minor service. Found out they sold to Maytag. Called Maytag for service of water hose blockage and new door seal.
A week later a serviceman comes, looks it over without so much as opening a door and tells me there's a compressor problem. Need I mention he fumbled with a 10 watt bulb, admitting he was afraid to put it in because he might get electrocuted.
I paid my $113 service fee and called for another service man to do the original job.
A week later he shows up and takes apart my door, says he thinks I have an electrical problem, shuts it back up and then can't imagine why suddenly the frig is dead. All this for a water hose and door seal?
I call again, complaining to service and corporate that I called for simple service and ended up with a broken frig, lost all my food (just went shopping the day before), and need this rectified immediately. No one would return my calls. Only told me they would "look into it" but I can have no refunds for service except for a partial refund towards the purchase of a new Maytag appliance. At this point, no thanks.
In the meantime, I called another repairman from another place who verified Maytag's analysis. He says it could have been avoided and repaired. I wouldn't let him fix it since he wanted to take it to his shop and work on it leisurely @ $100/hr., but that's another story.
I wrote Ralph Hake at Maytag Corporate complaining of this issue (certified, return receipt). In the meantime, I also called for another Maytag serviceman. A week later, he shows up and says all the electrical is bad, and whatever the other Maytag servicman did broke it completely.
So, 2 weeks into lost food and no help from Maytag, I decide to buy a Whirlpool frig. Especially since every salesperson in every store discouraged me from buying any Maytag product, not even knowing my situation.
I get a call from Maytag, on behalf of Ralph Hake, and I'm told there is nothing they can do to repay me for the service charge of $113. They claim no authority to refund or compensate me for the break of my working frig since it was too old. I ask to speak to Ralph myself. Surely he has the authority to issue a refund. No, Ralph has a gruelling schedule and he can't talk to me, leaving me to assume he is devoid of a tongue.
Maytag has poor customer service and is negligant on every count. Go in for repairs and come out with broken parts, less a few hundred dollars. These people don't belong in the appliance business any more.
Since I can't have my money back, I vowed to spread the word and warn others to steer clear of Maytag.
