Dish Network Compliment - Great Tech Support
Three days ago I woke up and noticed that my satellite dish showed that my #2 TV in the bedroom was on (a little blue light in the box was on). The box is in the living room under TV#1. So I went to the bedroom to shut off the satellite and it wouldn't shut off. After trying several times, I called tech support. The girl I got in tech support was very knowledgeable, I thought. Since I know nothing about satellite TV anyone is smarter than me. Anyhow, she ran me through various things to get the TV to shut off. It seems, on System Info, TV#2 was set to the wrong setting. How it got there I do not know as that TV (#2) is only used for recording and we never watch it. Anyhow, she could not get anything to work so they decided that it was the remote. She told me they will send a new remote and I will get it in 2 days. Well, 2 days later, there is the new remote at my doorstep, UPS Air. Put in new batteries, program it according to instructions, go into System Info to perform the last step, and NO GO!! So I called Dish again, got a new girl and restated my problem. She went through everything again and still NO GO.
I said send out a tech for a service call and she switched me to that department for scheduling. Upon reaching that department, the girl on the phone said, just bear with me and try this stuff again. I did and still NO GO. She said, please remove the batteries (they were all new) and reinstall them. I said I just did and she said, Humor Me please. OK, I opened the back, shook out the batteries and proceeded to reinstall. Looking at the chart (with glasses on this time) I put in the first one, and then said, OH< OH!. I asked her, "Did you just hear me say OH< OH?. She said "yes". I said, I have been putting in the batteries wrong - 2 facing down, 2 facing up. They should all be the same direction. Back to System Info and Lo and Behold, it works.
All is good with world and she saved me the price of a service call and I got to keep the remote, too. I still don't know why TV#2 turned on by itself, but all is OK now. I said "I am sorry to have wasted your time" and she just laughed and said "That is quite alright, I get paid by the hour". Such a good ending. I know Dish gets bashed a lot, but I have not had any problems with it for 4 years until now, and this was a problem of my own making.
