Nissan Complaint - Malfunctioning Fuel Gauge Sensor
I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier with 41000 miles on it. At 39000 miles the fuel gauge started malfunctioning and the check engine light came on. When I fill up with gasoline, the fuel gauge remains at empty with the empty gas tank light on. Occasionally the gauge kicks up but dies down again. On 9/9/09 I took the car to the Nissan dealership and they diagnosed the problem as fuel gauge sensor needs replacement. They wanted over $500 to fix the problem. I have seen a lot of complains on the internet about this and so I called Nissan consumer affairs and they promised to look into a "goodwill" repair of the problem. However they called me today to say they will not pay for the part to be replaced. With this problem, I never know how much fuel I have left in the tank and I just keep filling it up every couple of days.
I am afraid the gasoline will ran out when on the roadside and put me and my family in danger of an accident or burglary or worse.
