L'Affair Cafe Complaint - Very Bad Dining Experience

Review by yrageel on 2009-09-15
MISSION HILLS, CALIFORNIA -- I went to this restaurant for the first time after learning about it from the newspaper. There were 2 other adults with me. The restaurant had a coupon in the paper to buy one dinner and get another one for free up to $10.50. It also said that a 15% gratuity would automatically be added to the bill. The three of us ordered dinners that were $20 each. Two of the dinners were what the restaurant called "Three from the sea" which included sea bass, white fish, and swordfish. The fish were shaped as squares and was fried. Both fish dinners had been cooked too long and the fish was hard, dry, and stringy. Surprisingly, the waitress never stopped at our table to check on us although she was stopping at other tables. It was awhile for me to get her attention. After complaining to her she had the manager/owner come over and I again explained the problem. He said he had been in business for 25 years and never had any complaints. I showed him how hard the fish was and that we did not feel like eating it and all he could say was that he was sorry. And yes, they did add the 15% gratuity to the bill. I will never go back to that place.

Hard and dry fish is unacceptable. Even the very best restaurants can't go 25 years without a complaint. That manager lied to you.

And you can REFUSE the automatic gratuity for poor service. Just mark it off the receipt you sign.. And watch out! Lots of restaurants automatically add a gratuity without telling the patron in the hopes you add another one! Always read the check.

Perhaps your food was crappy because you tried to use your coupon on a 20 dollar dinner eh.

Just because the OP had a coupon, is not a reason to think crappy food is acceptable.

Agreed Skye. The restaurant placed the coupon in the paper for consumer use. The quality of the food should be the same with or without the coupon.
