America Online Complaint - Ripped Off BY AOL - Account and Billing
OHIO -- On May 3, 2004, I cancelled my AOL account by calling the AOL customer service number - 1-800-827-6364. I spoke with a young man who asked why I was cancelling my account with them after 8 years of service. I told him, that this year my account was hacked into too many times and I have had enough. I also explained that I was beign build for extra money with no explanation as to why? He could not even give me a explanation. He kept trying to get me to stay by saying he would give me a month free if I would stay. I finally was able to convince him that I wanted to cancel and he then proceeded to go throught cancellation and made me listen to a tape notice at the end of the conversation to help verify my cancellation. That day I put a block on my credit card to make sure they would not charge me. I kept this block on for two months. I finally removed it so I could use my credit card once again and no sooner was the block lifted, AOL charged me $78.43. I don't even know how they came up with that amount since I have the bring your own connection for unlimited access. I called once again customer service. The woman I talk to insisted I was using the account for two months. I told her I was not and to check to see if it was a hacker once again. She must have seen it was because she apoligized and said that she would have to cancel my account again since it was not cancelled because of activity on it. She then put me through to billing to get the $78.43 refunded and make sure I was not being charged for July. I finally got through to billing with the number she gave me...1-888-265-8003, after being on hold for 20 mins I was finally speaking to a man named "Aldi", not sure on the spelling of his name. He proceeded to tell me that I could not have $78.43 back but in 3 to 4 business weeks he would credit me back only $49.19. He imformed me that that was the only amount AOL would allow per customer. I told him I was going to record this message and verify what he said, just like they state they are going to record us when put through...he told me I could not and if I did I would be in legal trouble. I told him to go ahead and credit me the $49.19 and send me a letter that he credit me this amount and why he could not credit me the full $78.43. He firmly said "No, will not do that, do you want the credit of $49.19 or not?" I accepted it with a clause of my own..that I would send a letter to the CEO of AOL and the Better Business Bureua about this matter. I am still overwhelmed that it will take 3 to 4 business weeks to return some of my money when it only takes them a few minutes to take it. My advise to everyone who thinks about getting AOL. It has changed, in my opinion, in the worst way. I was always happy with them until the past 6 to 8 months. I recommend, AOL IS NOT A SERVICE PEOPLE SHOULD USE!
