Grove City Firestone Complaint - Over charged at Firestone

Review by thergirl on 2009-09-24
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- I took my car to Grove City Firestone for an oil change. The price for an oil change was $35.00 and I had a $10 off coupon. So I should have been charged $25.00. When I picked my car up, I was handed a bill for $47.29. I asked why my bill was so much. I was told that they had to go to the dealer to get the filter for my vehicle because they could not find it at the auto parts store. I was upset so I left. I wrote corporate. To make a long story short, the manager Mike Green called me and made excuses for why I was overcharged and that I would not be refunded any money. I was charged $17.00 for the filter alone! I called Kia they sell it for $9.58 retail! So to sum up the bill, I was charged $34.38 for parts, $10.00 for labor, $2.99 tax. I feel Firestone took advantage of me because I am a female. I will never take my car back to them again. And unless you want overcharged neither should you. Please be forewarned. Good Luck!

I just received a call from the manager(Joe) at the Stringtown loacation and he apologized for the treatment I received at the Southwest blvd location. He also offered me a free oil change. Like I told him it is not about the money at this point. Anyway, he was nice and understanding and agreed that I had reason to be upset. As it turns out the southwest location is not corporate owned, it is a franchise. I told him they need to take their name off that building. I give credit when credit is due and I feel Firestone deserves credit for contacting me promptly and validating my frustrations. I will not take my car to the Southwest blvd location again. As to whether I will take it to any Firestone in the future, I will have to think about it. I told Joe I would not lump the S.W. location in with the corporate stores and I won't. Thanks to Joe from Firestone Stringtown Grove city!
Company Response on 11/03/2009:
THE CUSTOMER WAS ADVISED THE DAY SHE MADE THE APPOINTMENT, FOR HER CAR AND THERE WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE. OIL COUPON DISCLAIMER STATES MOST VEHICLES.
THERE WAS NEVER A $25.00 COUPON. $34.99 REGULAR PRICE MINUS ANY COUPON PLUS ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS
WHEN I CALLED THIS CUSTOMER TO SUGGEST A REMEDY, SHE HUNG UP ON ME AND THAT WAS THE END OF THE CONVERSATION
CUSTOMER WAS CHARGED $44.37 WITH OIL RECYCLE FEE PLUS TAX FOR THE SERVICE

What makes you think this is a thing about gender?

You dropped off your car... did you give them the coupon beforehand?
Never buy any filters or anything like from places like that. They *will* overcharge. It's not a taking advantage of the female thing... it's a "making a profit" thing. Just be a little bit more careful next time. Make sure you're getting what you want instead of it being a big shock after all is said and done.

Yes, I gave them the coupon first. I told them that there were 2 filters made for my year vehicle(2008 Sorento)the day before when I made the appointment. I was told they would take care of it. I will not take responsibility for Firestone overcharging me.

What makes me think this is a gender thing??? My husband took our car in for an oil change and was charged $25. Also, the guys talked down to me like I was a dumb female. I am not a dumb female. Thanks!

My experience with Firestone (2 different locations, mind you) was such that, if my vehicle broke down on the street right in front of one, I would pay good money to have it towed elsewhere. And it wasn't a gender thing, either; they lied as much to my husband about service "needed" as they did to me.

All I'm saying is, next time you have air filters that need to be changed or wipers that need to be replaced or whatever... go to O'Reily's or some auto stuff store and buy it from them. Places like Firestone charge too much for items like that, plus the cost of labor. Have a friend, bf, or whatever change them out for you. You'll save a lot of money that way. This advice is for next time.
