AT&T Long Distance USA Complaint - AT&Ts new slamming technique
I think that finally I have found a place to be heard from by many, and before you judge me to be a nut consider what I have to say , then tell me that I am wrong.I took a collect call from the hospital room of my son who had undergone emergency surgery in Maryland( I am in TN.)A month later I get my phone bill and a six minute collect call costs me 21.45. So I call customer service and one of that days miracles was that I actually got through to a person( I'll not print his name but if anyone needs it I am documenting everything). I tell him that I have no quarrel with paying for a call that I did receive but did he not think 21.45 was rediculous. He asks about my current long distance which is not AT&T. He tells me that he will take the complaint but if it gets read at all it might take a long time----HOWEVER if I would like to switch long distance carriers he can help me today- he can get me signed up at that 21.45 will only be .60 because AT&T has a 6 minute plan. I tell him that i only pay 5 cents now and AT&T and I parted ways several years ago because of their lousy customer service. He keeps insisting he coulld help if I would switch, I said no and hung up. Then I email customer service who do reply- another miracle. This person explains how hard their equipment has to work to connect that call, then HE tries his best to get me to switch to AT&T. This is plainly a new slamming technique to get you to switch to AT&T. That equipment worked the same at 6 cents as it did for over three dollars a minute- and not half as hard as their equipment works to loop complaint calls. Have you ever tried to get a person at AT&T when you have a problem? My second point is that by allowing these charges to be placed on hospital room calls, they are taking advantage of people who are already at a disadvantage to start with. I think that it is a way to get people to call so they can talk you into signing up. There shuld be a law that the phone company disclose the price of the can before asking you to accept. Where else are you expected to purchase without knowing the price?Nowhere I shop for sure. If it can be done for 900 numbers why not collect calls also?
